Informing the Nordic glaciology community about Arctic extremes

In the annual International Glaciology Society (IGS) Nordic Branch meeting, this year held in Copenhagen, Denmark (29-30 October 2025), ARCTEX presented current insights on Arctic extremes.

Surface elevation changes over Flade Isblink ice cap from swath-processed CryoSat-2 data.
Surface elevation changes (SEC) derived from CryoSat-2 over Science Case 3: "Flade Isblink", where ARCTEX aims to investigate the drivers of these changes using a variety of EO- and model-based datasets.
Prof. Louise Sandberg Sørensen presenting an overview of ARCTEX, and the current status of Science Case 3.

During the meeting, Prof. Louise Sandberg Sørensen presented current activities taking place within Science Case 3 “Flade Isblink”. Here, the various EO-based approaches being investigated, along with current findings, and, most importantly, the many different open questions still present, were presented.

The meeting offered three days full of riveting and inspiring science talks with high engagement by the participants, and great possibilities to discuss further collaborations or thoughts on extreme events in the Arctic.
